seo website template
what’s the difference between (info inside)?

Ok, I’m in 9th grade, and I know some of the basics of (web development? — am I using that right?) (I’m talking about Html etc.).

But, I wanted to know what the difference between, web development, web design, Seo, and ecommerce?

Also, I have three more questions:

1) What is it called when you make a website using html, then put a (layout???) on it?

2) What is called when people work with the internet; for example, people that know how to make symbols and things on the computer etc.

3) What’s the difference between a layout and a template? (I think I know what it is, but I want to make sure)

- web development is the overall production of websites. A web developer is, simply put, a person who makes websites, from start to finish. Usually the “development” is the technical coding part of things.

- web design refers to only the visual side of web development. A web designer makes a website look that way it does. Chooses the colors, layout, etc. A web designer doesn’t directly change the actual _content_ of the website. They don’t change any of the text or information. They just make it look pretty.

- SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It’s a niche of Internet marketing that involves making a website show up near the top of the results when someone does a web search on Google, Yahoo, etc. By using certain formats, and including certain keywords on a website, that website is more likely to show up at the top of the results when someone searches. This means higher traffic.

- E-commerce is a general term form any exchange of money over the Internet. When you buy something on eBay, that’s a form of e-commerce. It could also be two companies exchanging money.

1. I’m not sure what you’re getting at, but there’s no special name for this. It’s just web development. The layout will be made with either images, frames, tables or CSS. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is the preferred way of giving style to a website. This is part of the job of a web designer.

2. Experts with web development are often referred to as “webmasters”. “Making symbols and things” isn’t something I’d categorize as Internet-related expertise, though. That’s just be a techie; someone who’s good with computers in general. Sometimes we also call these people “computer wizards”, although that term seems to be going out of fashion.

3. “Layout” is just a general term referring to the way that a web page is organized. For example, you usually have a header, navigation bar, and a couple of columns for content. This is a description of a page’s layout. Good websites have a consistent layout throughout.
“Template” has a couple of different meanings. When someone says “this website is based on a template” it means they used a default template from a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) program like Microsoft Web or Adobe Dreamweaver. This practice is generally frowned upon.
A template could also refer to a website’s overall look and feel. It would mean a combination of the layout, as well as the colors, fonts, images, etc.
Often when building a website, a web developer/designer will first create a template, and base every page on that, to keep consistency.

Hope this answers some questions. Sorry if you don’t understand it all; I have a habit of using technical jargon without realizing it.
